SImple Testimony: I wore out a Dewalt 985 but it wasn't easy.

I finally wore mine out after a few years, but that is because it is a "daily driver" in a 6 day per week production scenario most would consider a "pummeling". The Makitas and Porter Cables served us early on, but Dewalt has had all our drill business since the mid 1990's. Now my "deceased" 985 is getting rebuilt for only $79.00 plus I just bought a new DW996 brushless and have a second on order. I also use my drills for construction. I takes a monster to drive Torx head 3.5" screws, but that 985 could do it for 1- hours straight with just two 3.0 AMP XRP batteries and a charger. I prefer screwing over nailing.

Great Torque! Super Quality!

I have 4 or 5 of old style 12v DeWalt drills and love the way you can vary the speed. The trigger adjusts the speed at a smooth rate from very slow to full speed. I've never found any other brand that did this.

DeWalt has maintained this quality.

The main reason I purchased this drill was the "torque". I wanted a drill that could power my 8" hand ice auger. Everyone said that it would not work. DeWalt proved them WRONG! It can power the auger through 20+ inches of ice in much less than a minute, and you better hang on.

A great improvement

I've been thinking about upgrading all my Dewalt tools from the XRP 18 volt to the 4.0a 20 volt tools, but I wasn't sure if it would be worth it.
Two weeks ago I was running conduit into a well can and my drill broke in half while punching 7/8'' hole, so I ordered this drill to replace my broken one. After running this drill for 2 weeks here are my thoughts:
Battery life is way longer with Li-ion batteries vs 18v ni-cad.
I'm glad there is a battery meter to show how much charge is left.
The drill has lots of torque
Now I need to scrape together money to replace my 2 impacts and sawzall

Tatally Awesome Drill

This the best cordless drill I have ever used. I always knew DeWalt was a good brand but I wasn't prepaired for this. This drill has so much torque that if you're not careful, it will literally jump out of your hands. Also the two 4.0 Ah batteries that recharge in 1 hr. It's un-believable. I'm going to replace all my cordless tools with DeWalt.
