Excellent chainsaw!!! Quality true to the Makita brand!!!
Comment:BEFORE ASSEMBLING, DO THIS --> First off, buy some Makita chain oil and fill the reservoir. Remove the blade holder and locate the 1/16 inch oiler hole. Before installing the chain bar or chain, run the saw for approximately 2 minutes so that the oil starts to bubble out the oiler hole. That's 2 minutes you would have been running the chain dry!! Now assemble the chain bar, chain, and cover. Adjust the tension on the chain and you are ready to go!!! First off, NO complaining that you need extension cords to run this saw. That small inconvenience will be far outweighed by your not having to worry about fuel and 2-stroke oil, and spark plugs, and air cleaner and LOUD chainsaw operation. With the electric chainsaw, you simply check the chain oil level, chain tension and GO!!! No more tiring your arm out pull-starting a finicky machine. Think about it....when I am cutting trimmings down to small manageable sizes so I can put them in a trash bin, I cut a section into 12-inch pieces, put the saw aside, gather the pieces and load into the trash bin. Then I continue in this manner. With this saw, I simply press the security switch and pull the trigger and the saw is running. With a gas saw, you have to set the choke, flip the run switch, hold onto the safety bar, pull-start a bazillion times, and then maybe it starts so you can begin cutting. Granted the gas saws serve their purpose, but for home use, the electric Makita chain saw cannot be beat!!!

Surprising performance for a gas saw guy!
Comment:My gas chainsaw was on its last leg, and was hit or miss on starting. I decided to get a new one. After settling on a Stihl gas saw in the $550-600 range, I did a bit more reading. That's where I ran into this unit. I have used electric saws for light pruning, but never really considered one for "real" chainsaw use. After reading up a bit on what was available, I decided to give the Makita 16" 15 amp saw a shot. I figured it would be a great trimming saw if it didn't cut the mustard as a real saw. My quarry: two trees in my front yard. One silver leaf maple that was about 27" average diameter, and a pine that was about 22" diameter at the cut line. Now, that's a tall order for a full power gas saw, so I thought I might not even get them on the ground. I'll just cut to the chase... my wife and I had both down and cut into 5 foot sections, hauled to the road and cleaned up in one afternoon. My neighbor came by to take a look and was equally amazed at this saw. He watched me make a cut through a 15" section, and said out loud what I was thinking: "my gas saw doesn't cut that good." Four stars only because I was never able to get the automatic bar oiler to work right. I saw some coming out of the hole but never enough to see it on the chain or bar. I ended up oiling manually to make sure I wasn't destroying the bar. A relatively minor issue, but an issue nonetheless. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this saw and would highly recommend it to someone who doesn't need the easy mobility of a gas saw (I used my generator and just rolled it from tree to tree). For work around the house, it's simply awesome.

16" Makita Chainsaw did the trick!
Comment:I just purchased 16" Makita chainsaw and I'm now heating my living room with the wood I cut up!. Saw works great. No hassles with noise and smoke of a gas saw. My wife and I like to scavenge downed limb wood and haul it back to our place. Now that we have a decent saw our stacked wood pile has grown!

Comment:I was pleasantly surprised on how well this 16" electric Makita chain saw worked. It zipped through wood the same as would a gas chain saw or very close to it.

Makita electric chain saw
Comment:I purchased a Makita 16 inch electric chain saw to cut up a large oak tree on my property. It arrived quickly and was everything that I had hoped for. I have used chain saws in the past but not an electric one. I works every bit as good as a gas model. The only thing to be aware of is the voltage drop on the extension cord if you are more than 100 feet from your outlet. The recommendation is to purchase a 12 guage cord which is a little more expensive. Makita makes great tools.
