Professional Quality Tools
Comment:I bought this combo as a replacement for a damaged drill that I used for at least a few years doing household, automotive and handyman work. I stuck with DeWalt because I am sold on their excellent quality and superior torque/power. I stuck with the 18V because I had a whole set that went with that damaged tool. I am glad that DeWalt had the wisdom and consideration to keep the 18V series of tools compatible with the NiCad equipment (aside from my radio/charger, that apparently is not intended to recharge the Li ion batts). My old drill is an XRP hammerdrill, that feels much heavier and has more drive options, but I am quite satisfied with the power and performance of these compact tools. I recently completed a framing job, using 3.5" coarse drywall screws, and I was particularly impressed with the driving capability of the impact driver. It is very good for pulling screws in tight and setting them with less driver bit slippage, resulting in remarkably fewer stripped heads. I have have used several cordless and corded drills for years, but without a doubt, I now prefer this small, yet powerful and effective impact driver for driving long screws. My only disappointment or complaint is that the batteries don't last quite as long as I had hoped. Perhaps this is due to that fact that I have grown accustomed to the XRP batteries and I have heard so much fanfare about lithium ion batteries lately. Be aware - when the lithium batteries get low, the tools go dead instantly and completely; one squeeze and you are driving, the next you get no response. When I first encountered this, I thought that the drill was defective.
